GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's Lacrosse team defeated Alma 21-1 in a conference contest on Tuesday night at Zuidema Field.
The Knights came out strong as senior Genevieve Schneemann (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington) started the game out with two back-to-back goals to give Calvin the early 2-0 lead.
From that point on, Calvin continued to control the game as the Knights went on to record 13 goals in the first half.
Just as the half was about to close out, Alma connected on a goal make it a 13-1 contest.
With the second half underway, the Knights remained on fire recording eight more goals and as the competition concluded, Calvin ran away with the 21-1 victory.
The Knights had many scoring contributors in the contest. Leading the team was Schneemann with eight goals. Senior Lauryn Slachter (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) recorded five goals as well as three assists. Senior Skylynn Gyuro (arwick, N.Y. / Storm King School) had four goals on the game. Recording one goal and two assists was freshman Drew Jansma (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa). Junior Jaimie Van De Burg (Lowell, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) also scored one goal and had three assists. Senior Emma Tilma (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) had the most assists on the game with four.
Calvin outshot Alma 50 to 4.
Head Coach Blake Boehm stated, "I'm proud of the way the team played today. We were intentional about securing possessions and capitalizing on our opportunities. Our draw team did a phenomenal job securing 50/50 balls and our defense was tenacious in the ride as well as settled situations. These aspects of our game set the stage for our offensive production. I'm proud of how disciplined we were. The team trusted the systems we've implemented and played a very unselfish style of lacrosse."
The Knights return to action on Saturday as they head to Albion to take on the Britons at 1 p.m. for a conference contest.
