ATLANTA, Ga. - Calvin improved to 6-4 on the season with a 65-49 victory over Birmingham-Southern University Thursday afternoon on the campus of Oglethorpe University.
Freshman Gabby Timmer poured in a career-high 31 points to lead the Knights while coralling 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Senior Rachel Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) dropped in 15 points off the bench while freshman Stephanie Coors (Evergreen, Co./Valor Christian HS) had nine.
Calvin led 12-9 at the end of one quarter and scored the first seven points of the second half to build a double-digit lead. Birmingham-Southern closed to within 31-28 late in the second quarter but Calvin closed out the first half on a 7-2 run to lead 38-30 at the break.
A basket by Warners on a feed from Timmer bumped Calvin's lead to 42-31 early in the third quarter and the Knights maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Calvin shot 47.5 percent from the floor with the Knights picking up a season-high 19 assists. Senior Becca Richards (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) led Calvin in assists with five while Coors handed out four assists.
The Knights held a 39-34 rebounding advantage and held Birmingham-Southern to 32.8 percent field goal shooting.
Calvin is back in action on Friday when it faces host Oglethorpe at 3 p.m.
