OSHKOSH, Wisc. – The Calvin Men's Cross Country team took 19th place at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday afternoon with a score of 506 points.
Winning the race was North Central (Ill.) with a team score of 43 points. The top individual finisher was Dhruvil Patel of North Central (Ill.) with a time of 24.24.5.
Leading the Knights was junior Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea / Seoul Foreign School) who completed the 8k course in a time of 24.56.3 to finish 34th overall. Smith's finish earns him All-American honors as the top 40 individual finishers receive All-American status.
Coming in next for the Knights was junior Caleb Ferguson (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) who took 104th place overall with at time of 25:37.5. Sophomore Jonathan Ellis (Baltimore, Md. / Towson) completed the course in a time of 25:57.6 followed by junior Tyler Johnson (Springfield, Ill. / Pleasant Plains) with a time of 26.02.9. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights was sophomore Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) with a time of 26.11.2.
Also competing for Calvin was sophomore Justin Varineau (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) who finished the course with a time of 26.12.0 and senior Jamison Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian) who finished in 28:04.2.
The Knights close out the Cross Country season and prepare for their indoor Track & Field season. Calvin will open its Track & Field season at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday, December 7th.
