GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's tennis team fell to the No. 30-ranked Hornets of Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon, 9-0. The loss snaps a six-match winning streak for the Knights. The loss moves Calvin to 14-3 and 4-1 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo improves to 10-6 and 5-0 in MIAA play.
"We knew that Kalamazoo was going to be tough," said head coach John Ross. "They made us work on all of the courts today and were the better team. We have to refocus and prepare for two very important matches."
The Knights put up a battle at No. 1 doubles, the team of senior Matt Van Winkle (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) and junior Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) fell to Daniel Henry and Tytus Metzler, 8-6.
With the Albion loss today, the Knights have secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
The Knights look to bounce back on Wednesday at Albion.
