Holland, Mich. – The Calvin men's Lacrosse team will travel to Hope College to take on the Flying Dutchman at 7 p.m. in the the MIAA Tournament Semifinals.
The Teams:The Flying Dutchman are 12-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Knights bring an 10-7 overall record into the competition and a 3-3 conference record.
The Coaches: Michael Schanhals is in his seventh year as head coach of the Hope men's Lacrosse program. Schanhals played on Hope's Club Lacrosse team when he was a student-athlete. After graduation, he went on to coach at different high schools, then he eventually became the head coach of Hope's club team before it became a NCAA DIII program. Schanhals earned his Bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1990 and his Masters from Michigan State University in 2000.
Dave Hoger is in his third year as the head coach of the Calvin men's Lacrosse program. Prior to Calvin, Hoger served as the defensive coordinator for the Frostburg State University (Md.) men's lacrosse team. Hoger graduated from Eastern University (Pa.)with a degree in mathematics and was a four-year goalie for the Eastern men's lacrosse team. As a senior in 2012, he served as a team captain and led the Eagles to their first-ever conference championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.
The Players: For the Flying Dutchman, Max Kuiper leads the team with 34 goals, 31 assists and a 64.5 shots on goal percentage.
For the Knights, Max Foster leads the team with 36 goals, 20 assists and a 46.4 shots-on-goal percentage.
