GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's golf team took second place at MIAA Fall Tournament #4 Monday afternoon at Watermark Country Club.
With a healthy dose of rain in the morning hours, Monday's tournament at times provided challenging playing conditions.
Winning the tournament was Hope College with a score of 285 strokes. Calvin finished with 294 strokes followed by Kalamazoo College at 296 strokes.
Calvin now rests 15 strokes ahead of third place Trine in the MIAA overall team (fall) standings.
Senior Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) led the Knights scoring a round of 70. Kuiper is currently tied for second place in the MIAA overall individual standings.
Coming in next was freshman Mike Battiste (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) who carded a score of 74. Shooting a round of 74 was sophomore Sam Holland (Novi, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) and freshman Kasen Anderson (Stillwater, MN. / St. Croix Preparatory Academy). Senior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) recorded a score of 76 strokes.
Head Coach Brian Bolt touched on today's competition. "On a cool and wet day, the team played a very steady round. Sam Kuiper again turned in an excellent performance, leading the team with a score of 70 and the rest of the team all scored well in the mid 70s. We are continuing to learn how to put it all together, but overall another second-place league finish is evidence of a very good team performing at a high level."
Also competing individually for Calvin were: Andrew Lack with an 72. Jackson Northouse with an 78. Mitchell Knoor with an 80. Josh Lansky with an 81. Ben Morse with an 85. Kes Raath with an 87. And Max Grant with an 87.
Calvin will return to competition Friday-Saturday, October 12th-13th as they round out their season in the MIAA FAll Tournament at Kaufmann Golf Course.
