ALMA, Mich. - Calvin took first place at the second MIAA Jamboree of the year and in doing so, moved into sole possession of first place in the overall MIAA team standings.
Calvin posted a first place team score of 287 on Saturday at the Pine River Country Club, five strokes ahead of second place Hope. Calvin and Hope entered Saturday's competition tied for first place in the overall team standings but the Knights now hold a five-stroke advantage heading into a Monday MIAA Jamboree at the Wuskowhan Player's Club in West Olive.
Seniors Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and John Van Noord (Troy, Mich./Oakland Christian HS) along with junior Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) teamed up for rounds of 71. The trio tied for third place individually.
Junior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Brandywine HS) also continued his strong play with a round of 74 that was good for a tie for 11th place individually.
Freshman Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) rounded out Calvin's finishers with a round of 77.
Nick Ludka of Kalamazoo and Cameron Ruge of Trine tied for medalist honors on Saturday with round of 70.
Monday's upcoming MIAA Jamboree at the Wuskowhan Player's Club is scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m.
