Men’s Golf Records a First-Place Finish at First MIAA Jamboree

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin men's golf team started the MIAA season with a tie for first place. The Knights shot a combined round of 291 strokes to finish tied for first place with Hope. Tuesday marked the first of six rounds of competition to determine the MIAA champion.

"We were very excited to get the MIAA season started today," said head coach Brian Bolt. "Our preparation has been good, and today we went into the round fully focused and determined to get the season started well. 291 is a very good overall score, and we are very happy with the consistent effort and performance through the lineup. Guys are trusting each other and feeding off of each other's excellent play. We will keep working on getting better and shooting scores that put us in apposition to win."

Senior Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) led the Knights with a round of 71 strokes to finish tied for second place.

Tied for seventh place at 73 strokes was senior John Van Noord (Troy, Mich./Oakland Christian) and junior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Brandywine)

Freshman Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) was one stroke behind at 74 strokes in 10th place.

Junior Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) rounded up the Calvin golfers in 21st place at 77 strokes.

Justin Kapke of Albion was the medalist at 69 strokes.

The Knights return to action on Saturday for the second MIAA Jamboree of the year at Pine River C.C. in Alma, Michigan.
