GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's basketball team will host Albion on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. for a conference contest. This is the second meeting of the two teams this season as the Knights fell to the Britons 69-60 in January.
The Teams: The Britons are 16-7 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA. The Knights bring an 12-11 overall record and a 7-5 MIAA record into the competition.
The Coaches: Jody May, who has served as a member of the men's basketball coaching staff at Albion College since 1997, was promoted head coach in October of 2008. A native of Elida, Ohio, May came to Albion after two seasons with as an assistant men's basketball program at Hanover College.
Kevin Vande Streek is in his 22nd year as the head men's basketball coach at Calvin College and in his 28th year as a collegiate coach overall. In 26 years as a head coach, Vande Streek has compiled an overall won-loss record of 504-260. As a coach at Calvin, he has produced a record of 411-180 and is the all-time leader for victories by a Calvin men's basketball coach. He has led Calvin to nine MIAA regular season titles, 10 trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, two appearances in the NCAA Division III semifinals and one national championship. He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin for a year, where he played one year of varsity basketball, before transferring to Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was a three-year varsity player. He graduated from Dordt in 1981 and went on to earn a master's degree in physical education from the University of South Dakota in 1986.
The Players: For the Britons, Caden Ebeling leads the team with a 77.4 free throw average, an 8.3 rebound average and a 13.9 scoring average.
For the Knights, Derek DeVries leads the team with a 27.6 three-point average, an 82.9 free throw average, a 6.2 rebound average and a 18.5 scoring average.
