Calvin Women's Cross Country Takes 16th at Principia College Cowbell Classic
ELSAH, Il. - The 15th-ranked Calvin women's cross country team received a preview of the NCAA III Championships competition course on Saturday as it competed at the Principia College Cowbell Classic. Principia will host the NCAA III Championships on November 18.
 
Competing in a field of nationally-ranked teams, Calvin took 16th with a team score of 433 points.
 
Sophomore Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was Calvin's top finisher, placing 65th on the 6K course in 23:20. 
Senior Marissa McGahan (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) was 77th in 23:29 followed by sophomore Sarah Ball (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) in 84th (23:40).
 
Senior Kate McLain (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS) was 86th (23:41). Junior Maria Kuiper (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) was 155th (24:42).
 
Junior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) was 159th (24:46) and sophomore Leah Bishop (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) 164th in 24:53 to round out Calvin's top seven.
 
Top-ranked Johns Hopkins won Saturday's team competition with a score of 74 points.
 
Taryn Cordani won Saturday's race individually with a time of 20:45.
 
Calvin will now break until October 28 when it competes at the MIAA Championships hosted by Adrian College.
