The 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship is coming to Calvin College, November 15-18.

To kick off Championship Week, on Wednesday, November 15 the NCAA and Special Olympics of Michigan are teaming up with Calvin to host a Bowling Event at AMF Eastbrook Lanes in Kentwood, Michigan, for over 150 collegiate student-athletes and over 50 area Special Olympic athletes.

The event is a community service day for the eight teams participating in the championship and promises fun and friendly bowling competition for everyone involved. Morning and afternoon sessions will provide all of the athletes with an opportunity to encourage each other and learn from one another.

Dr. Jim Timmer, Tournament Director and Calvin College Director of Athletics says the tournament has taken an "if it isn't broke don't fix it" approach to this event.

"When we hosted this same event during the 2015 Championship it was a brand new concept. Thankfully, it was so well-received that we were asked to give our 2017 athletes the same experience," he said, "It is our hope that both the student-athletes and the Special Olympic athletes will have great day, and come to appreciate each-others' skills and dedication to their sports."

NCAA Assistant Director of Championships, Jan Gentry, is also looking forward to the event. "We are very much looking forward to the opportunity to partner with Special Olympics Michigan, and provide an opportunity for our student-athletes and the Special Olympic athletes to interact and participate in an event together. It will be a great start to the championship."

NCAA Division III and Special Olympics launched a partnership in 2011. The purpose of their partnership is to enhance the lives of Division III student-athletes and Special Olympic athletes through shared experiences. It also provides a platform to raise awareness of both organizations in their local communities. The Championship Week Bowling Event is a great occasion to realize these goals.

The morning session of bowling is 9:00 - 11:00 AM, Wednesday November 15 at AMF Eastbrook Lanes. The afternoon session will be 1:00 - 3:00 PM.  The day will be capped off with the championship banquet Wednesday evening. Volleyball competition will begin at Calvin College's Van Noord Arena on Thursday at 12:30 pm. For ticket information visit the Calvin College Box Office at: Calvin College Box Office Tickets.
