For the second consecutive year, Katie Diekema has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team in the Division III Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Division.
Diekema now advances to the national ballot and is now eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America honors.
A native of Kenmore, Washington, Diekema recently completed a sensational distance running career at Calvin. A graduate of Ingelmoor High School, she garnered All-America honors four times during her career - doing so all in consecutive fashion.
She began her run of four All-America campaigns at the 2018 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships as she placed fourth in the 1500 meter run. She then claimed All-America honors in cross country this past fall by placing 16th at the NCAA III Championships. In March, she was an All-American at the 2019 NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing third in the mile run. This past Saturday she concluded the grand slam with a well-executed race in the 1500 meters as she posted a time of 4:30.84.
Diekema is just the second runner in Calvin women's cross country/track and field history to achieve All-America honors in four successive seasons. Lauren Bergstrom also achieved the feat in the same order from 2008-to-2009.
In 2018, she was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner for indoor track and field as she claimed league titles in the mile and 5,000 meter run. She repeated as the MIAA mile champion this past February while placing second in the 800 meters. This spring she captured a league title in the 5,000 meter run. She later earned a spot on the Great Lakes All-Region team for outdoor track and field as she held top-five times in the Great Lakes Region in the 800, 1500 and 5,000 meter runs.
In cross country, Diekema was a two-time member of the All-MIAA First Team.
A three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a seven-time member of the Calvin Dean's List, Diekema was graduated from Calvin earlier this month with a degree in mechanical engineering.
