GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Claire Spoelhof claimed Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) women's tennis Player of the Week honors on Monday for matches through April 18. Spoelhof helped the Knights improve to 9-6 and 3-1 in the MIAA with a 9-0 victory at Albion. This is the first time in her career being named MIAA Player of the Week.
"Claire has been a great leader for our team," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "She's been a three year captain for us. Claire has shown improvement each year, and has had a great last few weeks. Claire helped lead us to a big conference win last week, and I'm thrilled to see her honored as MIAA Player of the Week."
Spoelhof, a senior and native of Holland, Michigan, earned two points for Calvin in the Knights 9-0 victory over Albion. Spoelhof and freshman Anna Asfour defeated Chrissy Gauss and Lauren Rasmussen at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. She then downed Lauren Rasmussen at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2.
Spoelhof is 3-1 in the MIAA at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in 2017.
Spoelhof and the Knights return to action on Tuesday against Adrian.
