KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Calvin women's tennis returned to winning ways on Saturday morning. The Knights improved to 3-2 on the year with an 8-1 victory over Principia. The match was played at Kalamazoo College.
"Today was a nice win," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "Doubles competition was key for us today and it set the tone. Doubles play gave us some good momentum going into singles. This victory will give us some momentum as we head into spring break, in two weeks."
The Knights recorded the first point of the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles, junior Jessica Bouma (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) and junior Micaela Seazzu (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia) topped Natalie Deloach and Zoe Boyman, 8-0.
Paige Cooley, ranked 10th in the region picked up the lone Principia point at No. 1 singles over Claire Spoelhof, 6-3, 6-0.
Jessica Bouma was victorious at No. 2 singles over Gracie Buchanan, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Ellie Benzel topped Caitlin Carney, 6-2, 6-3.
Micaela Seazzu picked up a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 victory over Anh Vu at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Anna Asfour (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) tallied a victory at No. 5 singles over Brittany Duke, 6-3, 6-1.
Junior Kari Kroeze (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) had the final point of the day for the Maroon and Gold at No. 6 singles over Natalie Deloach, 6-0, 6-1.
The Knights return to action on March 20 against Luther in Orlando, Florida.
