Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Has Strong Day Three at NCAA III Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Calvin did not score but had a strong day three of action at the NCAA III Championships.

Sophomore Joselyn Smith (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) took 17th on the one-meter board (377.75), just missing a spot in the consolation finals. Sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) was 36th in the in the 100 backstroke (58.16).

Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team of Chao, senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS), freshman Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and senior Kendall Murphy (Modesto, Ca./Home Schooled) took 20th in a time of 7:40.44.

"Josie had a great performance on the boards, hitting some big dives down the stretch, fighting for the top 16. She had a great first experience at the NCAAs," said Calvin head swimming and diving coach Dan Gelderloos. "In our 800 freestyle relay, Anna Serino had a life-time best split and several new swimmers received great experience. This is not an easy environment so it is great for our first-time competitors to get an experience like this."

The Knights are currently in 36th place with a team score of six points head into Saturday. Saturday's final day of competition is scheduled to begin with prelims at 10 a.m. and the championship finals at 6 p.m.
