Women’s Swimming & Diving Has an All-American Thursday Night

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Calvin women's swimming & diving team earned its first All-American honors of the week at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday night. The Knights currently sit in 15th place with 32.5 points.

"We are celebrating four All-Americans tonight," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "That is always something special. They should be proud of their accomplishment. I feel strongly that we are making strides from last year and are giving ourselves more opportunities to score than a year ago and we still have several opportunities in the next two days. We are going to keep stepping into the ring."

The Knights earned All-American honors in the 200-yard freestyle relay on Thursday. The team of sophomore Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), senior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), junior Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) and senior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished in sixth place at 1:34.38.

Abby Van Harn also notched a 13th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.92.

On the 1-meter boards, senior Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) finished in 20th place at 377.25 points.

The Knights return to the pool on Friday for the third day of the NCAA Championships.
