Women’s Swimming Starts NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Calvin women's swimming & diving team opened competition on Wednesday at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. After the first day of competition, the Knights have 2.5 points.

In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) placed 14th with a time of 23.62 in the consolation finals. In the prelims, sophomore Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished with a time of 22.88 to finish in 32nd place.

The morning session started with the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) touched the wall at 5:07.44 to finish in 33rd place.

The Knights placed 29th in the 200-yard medley relay on Wednesday. The team of junior Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), senior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), Emily Gunderson and sophomore Libby Engle (Troy, Mich./Troy) finished at 1:48.48.

The Knights return to the pool on Thursday.
