Calvin Women’s Swimming & Diving Celebrates Senior Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's swimming and diving team put together a strong set of performances on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.

Albion won the dual meet 151-147. 

Sophomore Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) picked up the first Calvin victory of the day in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:58.79.

Junior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) picked up the victory in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:56.41. Van Harn also won in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:56.41 and the 100-yard freestyle at 52.76.

Calvin had the four-fastest times in the 50-yard freestyle. Abby Van Harn led the pack at 24.00. Freshman Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished in second place at 24.77. In third place was freshman Anna Kutschke (Manistee, Mich./Manistee) at 24.98 and in fourth was sophomore Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) at 25.36.

The Knights owned the boards once again, on the 3-meter board junior Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) won at 253.95 and in second place was sophomore Amelia Andrilenas (Kirkland, Wash./Juniata) at 196.55. Bradley won on the 1-meter board as well at 255.05.

Sophomore Kendall Murphy (Modesto, Calif.) picked up a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, with a winning time of 5:22.93.

In the final event of the afternoon - the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Calvin relay team of sophomore Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), Anna Serino, junior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and freshman Sydney Boyer (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) won at 3:39.12. The team of Anna Kutschke, sophomore Elysa Wolf (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin), Alyssa Oezer and sophomore Ka'lee Sparks (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) finished in second place at 3:42.19.

Saturday marked the final home meet for seven Calvin seniors. Klara Oh (Kent, Wash.) was a part of the second-place relay team in the 200-yard medley relay, she also took second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:11.06 and second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:33.33. Anna Griffin (Wichita Falls, Texas/Ramstein) swam a 2:36.74 in the 200-yard butterfly and clocked in a 5:12.99 in the 400-yard IM. Nicole Karl (Riverview, Mich./Riverview) was a part of the 200-yard medley relay that took fourth place, placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:18.61 and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:50.19, she also touched the wall at 26.54. Karine Rose (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly at 2.23.12, swam a 1:05.33 in the 100-yard butterfly and swam in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Audrey Sleder (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) started the day in the 200-yard medley relay, she also finished in sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:17.72 and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:48.05. Adrienne Wesselius (Sioux Center, Iowa/Unity Christian) swam a 25.79 in the 50-yard freestyle, she finished in fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:42.24 and in eighth place in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:04.96 and swam in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Hillary Glover (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian) did not compete on Saturday.

The Knights return to action on Saturday for a non-conference tri-meet at Chicago, with DePauw.
