Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Calvin Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming & diving team finished the Calvin Invite on Saturday evening at the Venema Aquatic Center. Calvin finished the three-day meet in third place at 920 points, behind a pair of NCAA Division II schools in Grand Valley and Northern Michigan.

The Knights started the evening with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of freshman Abbey Wellman, freshman Anna Kutschke, freshman Emily Gunderson and junior Abby Van Harn finished at 1:48.44.

Sophomore Anna Serino was the fastest Knight in the 500-yard freestyle in eighth place at 5:13.53.

Abbey Wellman had the fifth-fastest 200-yard backstroke time in program history. She finished in ninth place and dropped 2.86 from the prelims to finish at 2:08.51.

Sophomore Madelyn Smith had the fastest Calvin time in the 100-yard butterfly on Saturday in 15th place at 1:01.25.

Junior Klara Oh touched the wall at 2:29.48 in 12th place in the 200-yard breaststroke. She was also the fastest Knight in the 200-yard IM at 2:15.45 in 12th place.

Abby Van Harn was victorious again at the Calvin Invite, this time in the 100 freestyle at 50.69. Junior Rachel Mattson finished in fifth place at 53.14 and sophomore Alyssa Oezer tallied an eighth-place finish at 54.36.

The Knights had a strong Saturday night on the 3-meter boards, junior Sarah Bradley took second place at 424.55. Senior Hillary Glover tallied a seventh-place finish at 343.70 and in eighth place was sophomore Amelia Andrilenas at 323.95.

In the morning session, the Knights took second place in the 400-yard free relay. The team of Rachel Mattson, Anna Kutschke, Anna Serino and Abby Van Harn recorded a time of 3:29.69.

The Knights return to the Venema Aquatic Center in January when the Flying Dutch of Hope come to Calvin on Jan. 7.
