Women’s Swimming & Diving Records a Fantastic Friday at Calvin Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's swimming & diving team had another strong day at the Calvin Invite on Friday. The Calvin women are currently in third place at 665 points, behind Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan.

The Knights started off the night taking third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of freshman Emily Gunderson, freshman Anna Kutschke, junior Rachel Mattson and junior Abby Van Harn finished at 1:36.50. Dropping 2.37 from their time.

Sophomore Kendall Murphy was the fastest Knight in the 200-yard butterfly in 16th place at 2:19.60.

Abby Van Harn swam a fantastic race in the 200-yard free style. Van Harn took second with a time of 1:50.90, her best time at Calvin and the second-best in school history. Van Harn would not finish there, she finished the night winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.53. Her time was an NCAA qualifying B-cut.  Anna Kutschke finished in eighth place in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.76.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, junior Klara Oh finished in 18th place at 1:09.78 and senior Adrienne Wesselius was in 19th at 1:10.57, dropping 0.84 from the morning session.

Abbey Wellman was the fastest Knight on Friday night in the 100-yard backstroke at 59.72 in 14th place. Right behind her, was sophomore Madelyn Smith in 15th place at 59.90.

The Calvin women finished back-to-back in the 400-yard IM on Friday. Kendall Murphy touched the wall at 4:55.62 for a 14th-place finish and in 15th place was freshman Emily Slenk at 4:56.72.

Junior Sarah Bradley had a strong day on the 1-meter boards, finishing in fourth place at 395.10.

The Knights finish the three-day Calvin Invite on Saturday.
