GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer defeated Saint Mary's 2-0 in a conference matchup Thursday night.
The Knights held majority of possession throughout the first half.
In the 33rd minute, the Knights struck as sophomore Jessica Paulson (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth Christian) headed the ball and on the goal line was sophomore Izzy Redfield (Pierson, Mich. / Northpointe Christian) to chip the ball in and take the 1-0 lead. This was Redfield's second goal on the season.
With the second half underway, the Knights enjoyed possession as the game continued.
Calvin blasted another goal in the 77th minute as senior Bekah Maguire (Holland, Mich. / Holland Christian) found sophomore Grace Visser (Coopersville, Mich. / Unity Christian) and she powered one into the net from the top of the 18-yard box. This goal marked Visser's second on the season.
The Knights outshot the Belles 42-4. The Knights placed 15 shots on goal, two of which they scored. Calvin goal keeper Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) had two saves on goal to help shutout the Belles.
Head Coach Emily Ottenhoff stated, "It was good to get a win and another three points in the conference standings. Now our attention turns to a road match at Trine on Saturday."
The Knights are now 7-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the MIAA.
Saturday's match at Trine on Saturday is set to kick off at noon.
