GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer team lost to Adrian College in a conference match 1-0.
Both teams played on even terms in the first half as neither team was able to get on the board.
As the second half began, Adrian struck three minutes in on a loose ball inside the 6-yard box and Sarah Brannan was able to place it in the net. Bulldogs lead 1-0.
The Knights fought hard to come back. In the 76thminute, sophomore Grace Visser (Coopersville, Mich. / Unity Christian) had a great shot on goal but Adrian's keeper was able to punch it over the bar. Then with two minutes left of play, senior Kali Mouw (Avon, NY. Avon Central) took a corner kick and Mackenna Nesky had a header that hit the far post and the Knights were unable to put one in the net.
Calvin outshot Adrian 17 to 10. This was the third time a Calvin-Adrian match was decided by one goal.
Sophomore Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) had four saves on goal for the Knights.
The Knights are now 6-3-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the conference.
