Women's Soccer Suffers Shutout Defeat at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - A quick flip of the switch allowed Albion to gain the momentum and claim a 3-0 victory over Calvin Wednesday night at Albion's Davis Athletic Complex.

Calvin (6-7-1 overall, 5-4-1 MIAA) outshot Albion 6-1 through the first 35 minutes but the Britons were able to score on a swift counterattack in the 38th minute as Riley Burnette converted a feed from Emily Woford. Just four minutes later, Burnette set up Haley Kennedy for a goal, allowing the Britons (5-6-2 overall, 4-6-1 MIAA) to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

Albion controlled the run of play from that point forward, outshooting the Knights 6-2 in the second half. The Britons scored an insurance goal by Burnette in the 85th minute.

Albion outshot Calvin 9-8.

Sophomore Brianna Koehn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) had five saves in goal for the Knights.

Calvin is back in action on Saturday when it hosts league-leading Kalamazoo at noon at Zuidema Field.
