GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin got back on the winning track with a 3-1 conference victory over Adrian College Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.

Calvin (4-3-0 overall, 3-1-0 MIAA) showed no signs of sluggishness after suffering a 2-1 overtime defeat at Kalamazoo Thursday night.

Calvin outshot Adrian 18-7 in the opening half and scored in the 25th minute on a breakaway by freshman Whitney Koets (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS). The goal by Koets was her second of the year.

Senior Kailey Jo (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) gave the Knights a 2-0 lead heading into halftime as she bent a corner kick through a mass of defenders into the back of the net.

Adrian sliced the deficit in half in the 68th minute off a restart. The Bulldogs (2-4-1 overall, 2-2-0 MIAA) were awarded an indirect kick in the Calvin box. The initial shot off the restart was blocked but Emily Theissen of Adrian was able to bang in a rebound to make the score 2-1.

Just two minutes later however, sophomore Kali Mouw (Avon, NY/Avon Central HS) scored on a rebound shot for Calvin. The goal was the first of Mouw's collegiate career.

The goal by Mouw completed the scoring and helped seal the win.

"We had good energy and we bounced back nicely from our loss the other night," said Calvin head women's soccer coach Mark Recker. "We are starting to find our offensive identity. We are also building our confidence as a team. This was a step in the right direction for our team."

Calvin finished the game with an 18-7 shots at goal advantage. Sophomore Brianna Koehn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) had four saves in goal for the Knights.

Calvin will host Saint Mary's next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
