Calvin Women's Lacrosse Edged by Western New England

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Calvin closed out its spring trip to Florida with a 15-14 loss to Western New England Friday morning.

The Knights (4-3) led 11-5 at halftime and held a 12-6 lead early in the second half but the Golden Bears closed out the game on a 9-2 run, scoring the game-winning goal with 30 seconds left in regulation.

Senior Genevieve Schneeman (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS) scored four goals to lead the Calvin scoring attack. Junior Allyson Mesman (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville HS) had three goals.

Senior Lauryn Slachter (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a goal and six ground balls. Freshman Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) was credited with two goals, a ground ball and four draw control wins. Junior Jaimie Van De Burg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) tallied a goal, two assists and four ground balls while winning two draws.

Freshman Drew Jansma (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) had a goal, an assist and three draws. Senior Skylnn Gyuro (Warwick, NY/Storm King School) had two goals.

Senior Ellis Chalfant (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute and Country Day School) came up with seven saves.

Western New England outshot Calvin 36-29 and held an 18-13 edge in draw controls.

Calvin will host Aquinas Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
