Calvin College freshman Gabby Timmer has been named the D3hoops.com Women's Basketball National Rookie of the Year.
Timmer is just the second individual in Calvin women's basketball history to receive the honor. As a freshman in 2010, Calvin's Carissa Verkaik also received the prestigous award.
A native of Caledonia and a graduate of South Christian High School, Timmer had a sensational freshman campaign in 2018-19, averaging 18.4 points and 10.7 rebounds a game while connecting on 52.8 percecnt of her field goal attempts. She notched 12 double-doubles (points-rebounds) during the season and was named the MIAA Player of the Week on three occasions.
Her total of 460 points this year was the 10th-best single-season effort in Calvin women's basketball history while her rebound total of 267 was the seventh best.
At the conclusion of the MIAA regular season, she was named to the All-MIAA First Team.
Earlier this month, she was named to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region second team and was named the D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year.
