Calvin Women's Basketball Falls to Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, GA. – The Calvin Women's basketball team fell to Olgethorpe University 73-48 in the Quality Suites Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon. 

Both teams came out in the first quarter exchanging points, but it wasn't long for the Stormy Petrels to take the lead. With the Oglethorpe's 21-6 lead over Calvin, the Knights rallied back to go on a run of 15 points to tighten the score 21-15 as the first quarter closed out. 

With the second quarter underway, both teams struggled to put points on the board early in the quarter. As the quarter progressed, the Stromy Petrels went on a run of eight to lengthen the lead 31-17. The Knights knocked down four free throws, but Olgethorpe controlling most of the quarter, held their lead as the half closed out 37-21. 

Olgethrope controlled the second half as they continued to lengthen their lead throughout play and closed out the game with a 73-48 win over Calvin. 

Leading the Knights was senior Rachel Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) with 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Gabby Timmer (Caledonia, Mich. / South Christian) posted nine points and five rebounds followed by freshman Stephanie Coors (Evergreen, Co. / Valor Christian) with eight points and five rebounds. 

At the conclusion of the tournament, Timmer was nasmed to the Quality Suites Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team. 

The Knights return to action next Friday as they travel to Northwestern Ohio at 5:30 p.m.
