Men Track & Field Shines on Easter Weekend

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin men's track & field team had a strong outing at the Siena Heights Don Kleinow Invitational.

In the 400-meter race, junior Ethan Valentine (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) took second place at 48.67. Sophomore Luke Peterson (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished in 10th place at 52.29.

Senior Robert Hohlman (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished the 1500-meter race in seventh place at 4:07.08.

A trio of Knights finished in the top-10 in the 5000-meter race. Freshman Tyler Johnson (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) clocked in a third-place time of 15:04.69. In fourth place was junior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) at 15:12.75 and sophomore Jamison Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) was in eighth place at 15:25.10.

Junior Jonathon Randall (Hopkinton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) was the fastest Knight in the 10000-meter race at 34:06.26. Freshman Ryan VanAppledorn (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished in sixth place at 35:07.77.

Junior Chase Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington) crossed the finish line in fifth place at 16.32 in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Alex Williams (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) finished right behind in sixth place at 16.60.

Four Knights finished in the top-10 in the steeplechase.  Freshman Caleb Ferguson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the event at 9:25.87. Freshman Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea/Seoul Foreign School) was in third place at 9:41.15, junior Matthew Boelens (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional) took fourth at 9:51.14 and senior Mason Swartz (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) finished in fifth place at 10:17.78.

In the 4x400 relay, the team of Ethan Valentine, sophomore James Jeninga (Brookfield, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran, Luke Peterson, and junior Noah Buteyn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) took second place at 3:20.26.

Freshman Jonathan Walt (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) cleared 14' 1.25" at pole vault to take sixth place.

In the long jump, sophomore Lee Barents (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian) recorded a jump of 21' 9.5" to record a third-place finish.

Sophomore Brendan VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) placed ninth in the shot put at 43' 5", sixth in the discus at 145 4" and seventh in the hammer at 157' 2".

Freshman Andrew Huston (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) placed seventh in the triple jump at 37' 4".

Senior Erick Holder (Marian, Ind./Eastbrook) finished in sixth place at 132' 11" in the javelin.
