Calvin Men's Track and Field Competes at GVSU Tune-Up Invitational

ALLENDALE, Mich, - The Calvin men's track and field team competed at the Grand Valley State University Tune-Up Invitational Friday night.

Calvin had a handful of notable performances. Those performances included:

*Junior Noah Buteyn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking fifth in the 400 meters (50.47).

*Senior Jeiel Burrel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking fourth in the high jump (6-2 3/4).

*Senior Brendan Van Houten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking 12th in the shot put (43-5) and 16th in the weight thtorw (47-7 3/4). 

*Sophomore Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian HS) taking fifth in the long jump (21-0 3/4). 

*Junior Jacob Stout (Escondido, Ca./Escondido Calvin Christian HS) taking 10th (13-11 3/4) and freshman Jonathan Walt (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) placing 13th (13-3 3/4) in the pole vault.

*Junior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) placing 11th in the mile run (4:22.88).

*Senior Jonathan Schaap (Mahomet, Il./Mahomet-Seymour HS) taking 12th (1:57.50) and junior Hendrik Vermeulen (Bright's Grove, Ont./St. Patrick's Secondary School) taking 13th (1:57.68) in the 800 meters.

*Junior Matt Boelens (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional HS) placing sixth (8:55.11) and freshman Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea/Seoul Foreign School) taking eighth (9:00.80) in the 3,000 meters.

*Junior Nathan Brookhouse (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) taking second in the 5,000 meters (16:19.85) and freshman Jason Klaasen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) taking fourth (16:31.62).

*Junior Chase Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington HS) placing eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.90).

*Calvin's 4x400 meter relay of Schaap, Vermeulen, junior Nate Veldboom (East Jordan, Mich./Ellsworth HS) and freshman Sam Veenstra (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) taking third in a time of 3:29.31.

Calvin will now prepare to host the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next Saturday inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center and the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center.
