Calvin Men's Tennis Touched Out by Tech 5-4 in Non-Conference Dual Match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.

IIT took two of the three doubles points and then split the six singles matches to claim the one-point win.

Seniors Jose' Larrea (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Colegio San Jose) and Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) claimed an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Brandon Johnson (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) pulled out an exciting 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win at No. 6 singles over Mohammed Shamel. Freshman Brandon Shapiro (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South HS) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 5 singles over Adam Laitinen.

Larrea continued his strong singles form by winning 6-3, 6-2 over Pol de Santiago at No. 1 singles. Larrea is now 4-2 at No. 1 singles this season.

Calvin (5-2) will now break for action until its spring break trip, scheduled for March 18-22 in Orlando, Florida.
