HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin closed out its dual meet campaign with a 168-122 victory at rival Hope on Saturday. Calvin completed its dual meet season with an 8-3 record.
Calvin took first place in nine events, taking the top three spots in several events.
Senior Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./Chesapeake HS) was a double-winner, taking first place in both the 50 freestyle (21.29) and 100 butterfly (51.94). Britton led a 1-2-3 Calvin swept in the 50 free with junior Tristan Hazlett (Lutz, Fla./Home School) second (21.99) and senior Jacob Lensing (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) third (22.17).
In the 1,000 freestyle, junior Brian Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) cruised to a win in a time of 10:18.30 while sophomore Dominic Timmer (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) was second (10:42.08).
The Knights took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke with senior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) winning the race in a time of 51.62. Senior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia HS) was second (54.14) and freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) third (55.07).
Calvin took the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. In the 100 breaststroke, junior Gabriel Kirk (Irvine, Ca./University HS) took first (1:01.54), junior Sam Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) was second (1:01.67) and freshman Nicholas Peeps (Toledo, Oh./St. Francis de Sales HS) third (1:02.30). Peeps then raced his way to a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.27 while Kirk was second (2:18.17) and freshman Bryce Miner (Sunnyvale, Ca./Homestead HS) third (2:21.13).
In the 200 backstroke, Calvin again took the top three spots led by sophomore Colin Murphy (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice HS) in a first place time of 1:58.66. Fish was second (1:59.25) and freshman Jake Boender (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) third (2:03.91).
Sophomore Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio Emil Friedman HS) took the 500 freestyle (4:48.93) while freshman Matt Creeks (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly HS) was second (5:00.39).
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the MIAA Championships scheduled for February 20-23 at the Holland Aquatic Center.
