Calvin took third at its own Calvin Winter Invite, posting a three-day total of 1,230 points. Grand Valley State took first with 1,662 points with Northern Michigan second with 1,610 points.
The highlight of the day for Calvin came in the 200 medley relay as the Holstege brothers (Ben, Sam and Noah) along with senior Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./Chesapeake HS) shattered a school record with a second place time of 1:29.40. The time surpasses the previous time of 1:30.06 set in 2016. The medley relay time is currently the fastest time in Division III this year.
Sophomore Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio Emil Friedman) made a bid for the win in the 500 freestyle before finishing third in 4:31.48. The time ranks as the second-best in Division III this season.
Senior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia HS) was sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.08.
Senior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) and Britton both cracked the 50-second barrier in the 100 butterfly with Holstege finishing third in 49.55 and Britton fourth in 49.65. In the morning prelims, Holstege clocked a time of 49.35, just a tenth of a second off the school record of 49.25 set by Peter Boumgarden in 2002.
Junior Fear Churchwell (Athens, Ga./Clarke Central HS) was fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.99). Calvin's 400 freestyle relay team of junior Tim Randall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), senior Nate Olberding (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS), freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) and junior Tristan Hazlett (Lutz, Fla./Home School) took seventh in a time of 3:10.17.
