GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's swimming & diving team came up just short on Saturday against Albion on senior day. The Britons edged the Knights, 142-158. Calvin is now 4-3 on the year and 3-1 in the MIAA.
The Knights started the day winning the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Eli Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Brett Stoughton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and sophomore Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) won with a time of 1:33.09.
Freshman Brian Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) picked up the victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:18.81.
Ben Holstege touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke at 51.68.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Eli Holstege won with a time of 58.30. He finished his senior day with a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.38 and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:18.50.
Brett Stoughton picked up a senior day victory in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:57.76. He also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:04.23 and second in the 400-yard IM at 4:18.49.
Jared Britton recorded a first-place finish at 21.37 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Max DeYoung (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) won a thriller in the 100-yard freestyle at 47.27.
Junior Michael Moentmann (Solon, Ohio/Solon) earned a victory on the 3-meter boards at 290.95. Senior Dirk Tanis (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished fourth on the 3-meter at 249.85 and third on the 1-meter on senior day at 265.10.
The Knights return to action on Saturday for a non-conference tri-meet at Chicago, with DePauw.
