Men’s Swimming Diving Takes Third at Calvin Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's swimming & diving team finished the Calvin Invite on Saturday evening at the Venema Aquatic Center. Calvin finished the three-day meet in third place at 1238.5 points, behind a pair of NCAA Division II schools in Grand Valley and Northern Michigan.

The Calvin men started the evening taking second place in the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Ben Holstege, senior Eli Holstege, senior Brett Stoughton and sophomore Jared Britton clocked in at 1:30.81.

Freshman Tim Randall recorded a sixth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:44.07.

Junior Steven Tarske was the fastest Knight in the 200-yard backstroke in 16th place at 2:05.82.

A trio of Knights competed in the A-finals of the 100-yard butterfly. Jared Britton placed fourth at 50.42, Brett Stoughton clocked in at fifth place at 50.46 and Ben Holstege finished in sixth at 50.80. Holstege had the sixth-fastest time in school history in the prelims at 50.21.

Freshman Fear Churchwell had the fastest Calvin time in the 200-yard breaststroke in 13th place at 2:11.39, for the sixth-fastest time in school history.

In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Max DeYoung dropped 1.14 from his prelim time to finish in 10th place at 46.92. Tim Randall dropped 0.90 to take 12th at 47.27 and freshman Tristan Hazlett finished in 13th place at 47.97.

Brett Stoughton touched the wall at 1:57.00 to take 11th place in the 200-yard IM.

On the 1-meter boards, junior Michael Moentmann finished in fifth place at 416.40. Senior Dirk Tanis was in eighth place at 368.30.

The Calvin men finished in third place in the 400-yard free relay on Saturday afternoon at 3:04.48.
