GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's soccer team defeated rival Hope in an MIAA semifinal match 5-0 Tuesday night at Zuidema Field.

The Knights struck in the 26th minute as senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa. / Hempstead) at the top of the 8-yard-box and he headed one into the goal to put the Knights on the board.

The Knights came out on fire the second half as junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich. / Canton) found junior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) in the 52nd minute and he chipped one to the far post just outside the 8-yard-box.

Two minutes later the Knights struck again as junior Jacob Lyon (Holt, Mich. / Lansing Christian) located Witte to put Calvin up 3-0.

Calvin scored again in the 60th minute as this time Witte found McCaw on the run and he blasted one past the keeper to record his second goal of the game, 18th on the season.

The Knights weren't finished yet as senior Reid Culberson (Elgin, ill. / Wheaton Academy) crossed it to Witte who headed one into the net in the 77th minute. This was Witte's second goal of the game, 14th on the season.

The Knights outshot the Dutchmen 24 to 6. Calvin sophomore goalkeeper Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fla. / Saints Stephen's Episcopal School) had four saves on goal to help the Knights shut out the Dutchmen.

Head Coach Ryan Souders stated, "It was a tale of two halves. We got much better in the second half and the early second half goals helped open things up. We are happy to be playing in the Championship Saturday in front of our home crowd."

The Knights will advance onto the MIAA championship match on Saturday against Adrian with a tentative start time of 4:30 p.m. The match will be played at Zuidema Field.
