KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Calvin men's soccer team defeated Kalamazoo College in a non-conference match 2-0.
Both teams came out battling as the game remained scoreless in the first half.
With the second half underway, the Knights struck in the 62ndminute to get on the board and take the lead. Junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) who put the ball in the net. This was Witte's eighth goal on the season as he is the leading scorer for Calvin.
The Knights struck again in the 83rdminute and this time it was senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa / Hempstead) who found freshman Mason Smith (Flint, Mich. / Flint Powers Catholic) who recorded his third goal of the season.
Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 17 to 7. Calvin's keeper sophomore Chris Morrish (Bradenton, FL. / Saints Stephen's Episcopal School) had three saves on goal for the Knights as they shutout the Hornets.
With tonight's win on the road, Calvin is now 8-1 overall on the season.
Head coach Ryan Souders stated, "It's great to get a road result against an organized and gritty Kalamazoo team. Now we turn our attention to an increasingly competitive MIAA and will look to take it one game at a time."
The Knights will begin its run in MIAA competition as they prepare to host Hope College Wednesday October 3rd at 7 p.m.
