Calvin Men' Soccer Set for Neighborhood Rivalry at Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin Men's Soccer team will take a short trip to Aquinas College to face the Saints Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

The Teams: The Saints are 0-2 on the season after losing to Grace College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The Knights are 4-0 on the season after earning two big wins this past weekend over Millikin University and Ohio Northern University. 

The Coaches: Joe Veal is in his 17thseason with the Aquinas Saints. Veal graduated from Bethel College where he played varsity men's soccer for four years. Veal has overall record of 167-75-18.Ryan Souders is in his seventh season with the Knights. Souders is a 2007 graduate of Wheaton College where he played four-years as a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team. During the past six years, Souders has led the Knights to five NCAA tournament appearances. Souders has totaled a record of 118-16-7 as head coach of the Knights.

The Players: Returning starters for the Saints include junior midfielder Franco with nine assists, senior midfielder Nick Ellingboe with five goals, two assists, senior defender Matt Lazzar and goalkeeper sophomore Theoren Collison with five shutouts. For the Knights, junior Hunter Olsen leads the team with five goals and two assists on the season. Posting four goals each for the Knights are seniors Bobby McCaw and Jacob Witte.

Series History:This will be the second time that the Saints and Knights will face each other in school history. Last time these team met in 2008, the Saints won 3-2.
