Calvin's Jacob Witte Named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American in Men's Soccer

Calvin College junior Jacob Witte has been named a Division III CoSIDA Academic All-American in men's soccer.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Witte is receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the first time in his collegiate career.

Witte was a key part of a powerful Calvin offensive attack this fall, compiling 11 goals, 11 assists and 33 points. He has a pair of game-winning goals this fall, scoring in a 3-0 win over Lake Forest on September and also in a 5-0 win over Olivet October 25.

During his career he has scored big post-season goals as well. As a freshman in 2015, he scored the game-winner in the closing minutes of a 1-0 national quarterfinal win of the NCAA III Tournament at Kenyon. As a sophomore in 2016, he scored the game-winner in a 2-1 double-overtime upset at Messiah in a national semi-quarterfinal match of the NCAA III Tournament.

He was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once during the season and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.

Witte has 24 goals, 21 assists and 69 points in his Calvin career.

In the classroom, Witte is majoring in Speech Pathology and carries a 3.88 grade point average.

He is a four-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and a two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

"I'm thrilled to see Jacob receive this award," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "He has worked very hard in the classroom and on the soccer pitch. He is very deserving of this award. As a program, we push hard for success both in the classroom and on the soccer field. Jacob has played a key role in helping our program strive for these goals."

Witte is the seventh individual in Calvin men's soccer history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, joining Sam Glass (1997, 1998), Will Watts (1997), Joel Veldhouse (2003, 2004), Greg Snapper (2009), Miles Colago (2011) and Travis Vegter (2013, 2014) to have done so.

Calvin student-athletes have now received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors 123 times.
