GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin Men's Lacrosse team fell to Carthage 14-5 on Friday night at Zuidema Field.
Carthage struck first to take the 1-0 lead, but it didn't take long for Calvin to answer as sophomore Jacob Gandara (Santa Clarita, Calif. / West Ranch) found senior Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice) and he blasted one in the net to tie the game up.
With just over five minutes in the first quarter, the Red Men took back the lead, however once again the Knights quickly tied it back up as senior Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found the back of the net.
With the second quarter underway, Carthage recorded two more goals to take the 4-2 lead.
Senior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind. / Heritage Christian) recorded a goal to tighten Carthage's lead to within one.
Carthage came out strong the second half as the Red Men scored four goals in a row to take the 8-3 edge.
With just under eight minutes in the third quarter, Bontreger connected with Gandara and he found the back of the net.
The Red Men went on to record five more straight goals to lead 13-4.
Junior Griffin Sparling (Novi, Mich. / Novi) scorched a shot in the fourth quarter finding the back of the cage.
Carthage closed out the game with one more goal as the Red Men ran away with the 14-5 victory.
Carthage outshot Calvin 39-36.
The Knights return to action on Saturday as they host Northland for a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m.
