Calvin Men's Lacrosse Tripped up by Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Calvin men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-4 decision at Trine University Tuesday night.

Calvin (3-13 overall, 0-6 MIAA) trailed 5-0 after one quarter of play and went into halftime down 7-1. Calvin's lone first half goal came from junior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) with 8:28 left in the second quarter.

The goal by Bontreger was part of a 3-0 Calvin run as senior Michael Winkler (La Quinta, Ca./Palm Desert HS) and junior Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) opened the third quarter with goals to pull the Knights to within 7-3.

Trine (9-5 overall, 4-2 MIAA) scored three unanswered goals to close out the third quarter however and put up three more goals in the fourth before Bontreger was able to net his second goal of the game, scoring on a feed from Foster with 2:23 remaining.

Senior Ethan Brown (Falmouth, Me./Falmouth HS) and sophomore Nick Pitre (Jacksonville, Fl./Providence HS) came up with four ground balls apiece. Freshman Nathan Jindra (South Bend, Ind./John Adams HS) also had three ground balls.

Trine held a 44-24 shots at goal advantage. Freshman Mitchell Wong (Schaumburg, Il./Schaumburg HS) came up with seven saves in goal for the Knights.

Calvin will close out its season Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against Olivet at Zuidema Field. Calvin will recognize its three seniors in Winkler, Brown and Derek VanderBrug (Woburn, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) who will be playing in their collegiate game.
