ADA, Ohio – The Calvin men's lacrosse team started the 2017 season with a 12-4 loss at Ohio Northern on Saturday. Ohio Northern improved to 1-1 on the season.
"We played really hard today," said head coach Dave Hoger. "I am very proud of the effort that the guys put in to today's game. We have a lot to work on to get to where we want to be and the guys are ready to get back to work and improve."
The Polar Bears started the game on a 6-0 run.
Senior Joel Schaefer (Clarksville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) got the Knights on the scoreboard with 41 seconds left in the first half.
Junior Michael Winkler (La Quinta, Calif./Palm Desert) made it a 7-2 ballgame with an unassisted goal.
Joel Schaefer tallied his second goal of the game with 6:29 left in regulation.
Senior Chris Griffin (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) recorded the final goal of the day.
The Knights had 20 shots on the day, with Michael Winkler finishing with a team-high seven.
Freshman Mitchell Caldwell (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) finished with seven saves.
Calvin returns to action on Thursday at Heidelberg.
