GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's basketball team will host Adrian College Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. for its first conference matchup of the season.
The Teams: The Bulldogs are 3-8 overall. The Knights bring a 5-6 overall record into the competition.
The Coaches: Kyle Lindsay is in his third season as the head coach of the Adrian College men's basketball team. Lindsay earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Adrian College. Lindsay played football for four years and basketball for one. He began his coaching career at Ottawa Hills High School as an assistant coach for two years, helping the Green Bears advance to the State Final Four. Prior to Adrian, Lindsay was the assistant coach for the Trine University men's basketball program for five seasons.
Kevin Vande Streek is in his 23rd year as the head men's basketball coach at Calvin College and in his 28th year as a collegiate coach overall. In 28 years as a head coach, Vande Streek has compiled an overall won-loss record of 504-260. As a coach at Calvin, he has produced a record of 411-180 and is the all-time leader for victories by a Calvin men's basketball coach. He has led Calvin to nine MIAA regular season titles, 10 trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, two appearances in the NCAA Division III semifinals and one national championship. He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin for a year, where he played one year of varsity basketball, before transferring to Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was a three-year varsity player. He graduated from Dordt in 1981 and went on to earn a master's degree in physical education from the University of South Dakota in 1986.
The Players: For the Bulldogs, Jordan Harris leads the team with a 34.4 three-point average and 16.3 scoring average.
For the Knights, Derek DeVries leads the team with a 28.9 three-point average, an 84.8 free throw average, a 5.8 rebound average and a 19.3 scoring average.
