Calvin Baseball Bitten by Bulldogs in Saturday Doubleheader

ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin dropped a pair of conference game at Adrian on Saturday, falling by scores of 7-2 and 13-4.

GAME ONE
Adrian 7, Calvin 2

Calvin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run RBI triple by senior Ryan Pena (Lake Forest, Ca./J. Serra Catholic HS). Adrian (20-4 overall, 13-1 MIAA) picked up a run in the bottom of the second and scored two runs in both the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull away for the win.

Adrian outhit Calvin (9-17 overall, 5-11 MIAA) 9-6. Pena and junior Jeremy Clark (San Diego, Ca./Mt. Carmel HS) had two hits apiece. Freshman Matt Raymond (Chicago, Il./Loyola Academy) had a double. Senior Clay Francisco (Delton, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) went the first five innings and took the loss, striking out four and walking two.

GAME TWO
Adrian 13, Calvin 4

Adrian outhit Calvin 17-8, breaking open a scoreless game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Calvin picked up a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Pena. The Knights added three more in the eighth as freshman Nick Vogel (Hartford, Wisc./Hartford HS) roped a two-run RBI double and later scored on a fielder's choice by Raymond. Freshman Ryan Peterson (Glen Ellyn, Il./Glenbard West HS) was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Knights.

Sophomore Mark Primus (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) got the start and took the loss, striking out two without a walk.

NEXT UP: Calvin will travel to Kalamazoo next Friday for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
