Calvin Baseball Picked to Finish Sixth in MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll

The Calvin baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2019 MIAA preseason coaches' poll.

Defending MIAA champion Adrian is the preseason conference favorite, receiving seven first place votes with Hope picked to finish secondd, Kalamazoo, third, Alma fourth and Trine sixth

Under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Van Duyn, the Knights return several letterwinners from a team that finished 16-25 overall last year including 14-14 in league play which was good for a fourth place conference finish.

Key returning players include senior infielder/outfielder Ryan Pena (Lake Forest, Ca./J. Serra Catholic HS), junior pitcher Trevor Van Duyn (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) and sophomore infielder Ricky Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS). All three players were named to the All-MIAA Second Team last spring.

Calvin is scheduled to open its 2019 season on March 2 as it takes on Loras College in a doubleheader slated to start at noon.

The Calvin Sports Information Office caught up with head coach Kevin Van Duyn and has a two-part preseason audio preview list below.
