Calvin Baseball Tripped Up By Transylvania
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Calvin dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Transylvania University Friday afternoon, falling 3-2 in 10 innings in game one and dropping game two by a 6-0 score.
 
In the opener, sophomore Trevor VanDuyn (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) had another strong outing, tossing seven strong innings while allowing only two runs and striking out five. 

Calvin (1-6) scored both of its runs in the top of the second inning as sophomore Logan Marshall (Plymouth, Mich./Salem HS) and junior Beau Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) both delivered run-scoring singles.
 
Transylvania (6-7) came back with a run in the second and another in the fourth to tie the game.
 
Calvin had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth as junior Miles Kuperus (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) led off the inning with a double but was stranded as the Knights were unable to bring him home.
 
In the bottom of the 10th, Transylvania closed out the game with a walk, a stolen base and a run-scoring single.
 
Junior Logan Walker (Imlay City, Mich./Lapeer East HS) took the loss for the Knights to fall to 0-2 on the season. Sophomore Justin Paauwe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a strong stint in relief, tossing two innings of scoreless relief while striking out four batters.
 
Sophomore Quinn Hyndiuk (Elm Grove, Wisc./Brookfield East HS) had two of Calvin's seven hits. 
In game two, Transylvania scored two runs in the third, two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
 
Calvin was limited to six hits. Hyndiuk and Kuperus had two hits apiece for the Knights. Hyndiuk had a double as did freshman Ricky Padilla (Poway, Ca./Poway HS). 
 
Junior Clay Francisco (Delton, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) took the loss for Calvin to fall to 0-2 on the season.
 
Calvin will face John Carroll University Saturday at noon in a game set to played in Lexington.
